Domains, from Ry.hk

Search, register, renew and transfer in one account. First-year and renewal prices are written side by side, and Ry.hk does not wait until year two to raise them.

First-year and renewal prices side by side for every ending. Renewal is the long-run cost, and Ry.hk writes both down together.

What every domain includes at Ry.hk

These are not add-ons. They are what a domain should come with, at no extra cost.

Domain privacy

Included where the ending allows it: proxy details replace your personal information in the public lookup, which removes the easiest way to target you. Endings that do not support it say so.

About privacy

DNS management

A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT and the rest are maintained here and submitted to the registrar, so there is no second DNS panel to keep track of.

Portfolio tools

Folders, defaults and batch changes: one setting covers a whole group, and the list is ordered by expiry so a large portfolio stays manageable.

Organise my domains

What sets the price

The same name can cost many times more on another ending. The difference comes from the registry wholesale price and the promotion running at the time; Ry.hk does not set it, it shows both numbers.

The first-year price

Set by the wholesale price the registry charges for that ending, together with whatever promotion is running. Promotions usually apply to registration, sometimes only to the first year.

Premium and reserved names

Some names are priced individually by the registry as premium, or held back as reserved. Those can sit far above the standard rate for the ending, and change without notice.

The renewal price

Set by the registry wholesale price and usually more stable than the first year. If you intend to keep the domain, this is the number that matters.

01

Register several years

Locks in today price and pushes the next renewal out, which also means less renewal admin.

02

Turn on auto-renew

An expired domain takes the website and the mail down with it, and recovery costs far more than the renewal.

03

Compare endings

The same meaning under a different ending can cost noticeably less over the years.

Register the way you work

Registering one domain and registering a batch need different tools. All six routes share one account and one price list.

Standard registration

Type a name, see availability and the price in each ending, order what is free.

Search domains

Bulk search

One domain per line, checked in one pass and grouped by status - tick what is free and check out once.

IDN domains

Register in Chinese or another script so the address matches how local visitors write it.

How to register a domain

Four steps, and no account is needed first: browsing and configuring both happen before checkout.

01

Search the name

Type it in the search box, with or without the ending.

02

Add it to the cart

Anything available goes straight in, and you can compare other endings at the same time.

03

Check the term and privacy

Choose the term (usually 1 to 10 years) and confirm the privacy level and renewal price.

04

Pay and set up DNS

You get a confirmation email; then point the domain at your server with the DNS records.

Start searching

What comes after registering

A domain is an address; the services sit behind it. These four are set up in the same Ry.hk account, in the order you need them.

01

Put a website on it

Use a template to turn the address into a page, then bind the domain and publish.

Go to the builder
02

Set up mail on the domain

Send and receive from your own address, so what customers see matches the brand.

Configure mail
03

Install an SSL certificate

A padlock instead of a warning, which is what makes a form or a phone number usable.

04

Turn on auto-renew

So one forgotten date does not take the website and the mail down at the same time.

Manage renewals

Move an existing domain to Ry.hk

A domain registered elsewhere can be moved in: the same renewal prices, control panel and support as one registered with Ry.hk.

01

Domain transfer

Move a single domain in. Most endings gain a year on success. It needs a domain older than 60 days, unlocked, with the transfer code to hand.

Start a transfer
02

Bulk transfer

One domain and code per line, submitted in one go, each with its own result and only the failures to retry.

Manage your domains

One domain and three hundred are not the same job. Four ways to keep the day-to-day in hand.

Let the panel follow your way of working

The list is ordered by expiry, and opening a domain gives you its own page: lock, privacy, DNS, DNSSEC, forwarding and renewal in one place.

Open my domains

  • Group by purpose and apply settings to the whole group
  • Defaults decide what a new domain looks like from the start
  • Expiry dates and statuses in one view, so renewals are planned
  • API access for the repetitive work

One change of mind, shortly after registering

Eligible domains can be returned soon after registration, so a name you were only testing does not tie you up for a year.

About the grace period

  • Try a name before committing to it long term
  • Applies to endings and time windows that support it
  • Once returned the domain is released and can be registered by anyone
  • Exact windows and fees follow the ending rules

Lock the domain, protect the account

The registrar lock and privacy on the domain side, two-factor and a working registrant mailbox on the account side. Both halves are needed.

See security settings

  • Registrar lock: the registry refuses a transfer while it is on
  • WHOIS privacy: published details hidden where the ending allows
  • Two-factor: a stolen password is no longer enough
  • The registrant mailbox is the last gate on a transfer

Wire domain operations into your own systems

Search, registration, renewal, DNS and contacts are all available over the API, which suits bulk work and building a panel for your own customers.

Read the API docs

  • Endpoints grouped by resource, returning JSON
  • Keys created in the client area and revocable at any time
  • Ordering endpoints take a unique reference, so a retry cannot double-register
  • Calls recorded against the account for troubleshooting

Common questions about registering

How long does registering a domain take?

Most domains are registered and active within minutes of payment. You will get a confirmation email, and some endings also send an ICANN registrant verification email that has to be confirmed within 15 days or the domain can be suspended.

Why do prices differ so much between endings?

Each ending is run by its own registry, with its own wholesale price, operating costs and policies. Country endings and some specialised ones such as .inc are simply more expensive at source, and some carry eligibility rules. Promotions affect the first year as well. The difference comes from the ending, not from us.

Can I register for several years at once?

Yes. Most endings allow 1 to 10 years in one go, and a few set their own limit. Registering several years locks in the current price and reduces the number of renewals to think about.

How do I own a domain permanently?

You cannot buy one outright. Domains are registered for a fixed term and have to be renewed to keep them. The closest thing to permanent is registering the longest term and leaving auto-renew on, so as long as it keeps renewing it stays yours.

How do I find a better price?

Three things: check the current promotions on the deals page, compare the total cost of registering several years at once, and compare endings - the same name can cost noticeably less over the years under a different one.

How do I transfer a domain in from another registrar?

Turn the lock off at your current registrar and get the transfer code (EPP or auth code), then enter the domain and code on the transfer page and check out. Nameservers do not change during a transfer, so the site and mail are unaffected, and most endings gain a year once it completes.

What are the requirements for a transfer?

The domain must be more than 60 days old, in an active state (not in grace or redemption), unlocked, with a valid transfer code from the current registrar, and the registrant mailbox has to be receiving mail because the confirmation goes there. Some country endings have their own local rules and need manual handling.

How do I manage a lot of domains without it taking over?

Group them by purpose and apply nameservers, privacy and auto-renew settings to the group; use defaults so new registrations arrive already configured; and use batch actions for one-off changes. Those three together remove most of the repetition.

Do I have to give my real name in the public record?

You have to provide accurate registrant details - that is an ICANN and registry requirement, and inaccurate data can get a domain suspended. Where the ending allows it you can switch on privacy, which replaces your details in the public lookup with proxy details. The true record stays with the registrar and is disclosed where the law requires it.

Can I get a domain back after it expires?

After expiry it goes into a grace period (usually 0 to 45 days depending on the ending) where the normal renewal price still applies. Then comes redemption (usually around 30 days) where restoring it costs a good deal more. Once it is released and registered by somebody else, no payment brings it back. Auto-renew is the simplest way to avoid the whole question.

Not decided on a name yet?

Search first: availability and per-ending prices come back together. When nothing stands out, .com is usually a safe start.
