Domain expiry reminders and auto-renew: why it is worth switching on

25/09/2026

A domain is rented by the year, and it stops working if it is not renewed before it expires. So a forgotten renewal does not cost you a domain, Ry.hk sends three reminders around the expiry date and recommends auto-renew for the domains that matter.

The reminders we send

  • 30 days before expiry: the first renewal reminder email.
  • 7 days before expiry: a second reminder, with the renewal price shown.
  • After expiry: the domain stops resolving and enters its grace period.

What happens if you do not renew

An expired domain moves through three stages: the grace period (roughly days 0–30, renewable at the normal price) → the redemption period (roughly days 30–60, recoverable only by paying the registry redemption fee) → deletion and release (roughly days 65–75, when anyone may register it and it is usually gone for good).

Reminders go to the email address on your account, so keep it working; a reminder that lands in a spam folder does not count as one we failed to send. Auto-renew can be switched on or off in the client area at any time.
